Trauma-Focused Therapy

If you have experienced trauma, you are not alone. Research shows that about 6 of every 10 men and 5 of every 10 women experience at least one trauma in their lives. Women are more likely to experience sexual assault and child sexual abuse, whereas men are more likely to experience accidents, physical assault, combat, disaster, or to witness death or injury.

Trauma related symptoms can look different from person to person. You may experience reliving the traumatic event in the form of flashbacks or nightmares, having more negative thoughts and feelings compared to before the traumatic event, becoming more on edge and irritable, and avoiding things that remind you of what happened. These symptoms can disturb your daily functioning, your work, your relationships, and your physical health, and can lead to other serious problems, such as substance abuse and severe mental disorders.

“It is not what happened, it is what you do with it.”
